Salary : $52,166.40 - $71,448.00 Annually Location : Winnemucca, NV Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 00014 Department/Office: Public Works Department Division: Roads Division Opening Date: 05/19/2025 Closing Date: 5/26/2025 5:00 PM Pacific Description Under general supervision, maintains county roads and right-of-ways by performing a variety of manual tasks and operating light vehicles and road equipment; keeps records of work performed; and performs other work as assigned. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Road Maintenance Workers are assigned a variety of maintenance and equipment operation duties to maintain County roads and right-of-ways. Depending on County needs, employees in this class may specialize in operation of certain equipment for long periods of time but may be assigned to other duties and equipment as County needs change. Examples of Duties The duties listed below are examples of the work typically performed by employees in this class. An employee may not be assigned all duties listed and may be assigned duties which are not listed below. Marginal duties (shown in italics) are those which are least likely to be essential functions for any single position in this class. Operates equipment to maintain and repair County dirt, gravel and paved roads and county rights-of-ways; inspects conditions to identify work needed and the appropriate tasks and equipment to complete tasks.Types of Equipment operated include, but are not limited to, road graders, tractor-trailers (belly dumps, tankers, transport), dump trucks, water trucks, boot tankers, loaders, backhoes, dozers, rollers, sweepers, snowplows, and sanders. Installs, cleans and repairs cattle guards; installs, cleans and repairs culverts; patches pot holes; repairs bridges. Keeps records of time worked, equipment and supplies used, and conditions observed. Performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment: adjusts, lubricates, and replaces fluids on equipment; operates welders to repair broken equipment; checks for wear and for items needing repair, cleans equipment; cleans, sharpens, and adjusts manual tools; cleans shop and other work areas. Installs and maintains traffic control devices; paints traffic lines; erects, repairs and removes signs. Performs carpentry, plumbing and related building maintenance and repair tasks. Uses welding equipment to fabricate equipment. Sets up and operates sand and gravel screening plant. Typical Qualifications Knowledge and Ability: Knowledge of safety procedures to be followed in operation of equipment and in performance of such manual tasks as lifting heavy items, and use and handling of lubricants; capabilities of tools and equipment used in road maintenance and procedures for operating heavy construction equipment. Ability to work independently; operate assigned equipment in a safe and efficient manner; carry out written and verbal instructions; learn to operate different types of equipment; learn and follow operating procedures; communicate effectively with members of the public; work cooperatively with others when assigned to crews; identify when equipment needs repair. Experience and Training: Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is: Two years of experience performing road construction work and proficiency in operating road graders or tractor-trailer combinations like those used by Humboldt County. Retirement Nevada Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS)(1): Humboldt County, Nevada contributes 33.50% of an eligible Regular Member's salary for retirement. Nevada Deferred Compensation Program (NDC): The NDC is voluntary retirement savings program for employees of the State of Nevada, NSHE and other local government employers. The program is designed to supplement other retirement savings and pensions. Contributions are made pre-tax and investment earnings are tax-deferred or you may invest on pre-tax(Roth) basis and your investment earnings will be tax free upon eligible withdrawal. Both types of deductions are made through payroll. Insurance Coverage Insurance Stipend: Humboldt County, Nevada provides a monthly insurance stipend to assist employees who elect to participate in any of the County offered insurance plans. The stipend for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 is $1,300.00 per month. Health Insurance Eligibility: Employees working 30 hours or more per week are eligible for health insurance coverage. Eligible employees as defined in the group health insurance plan are eligible to enroll in the group health insurance plan effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Dependents of employees, as defined in the current plan booklet, are also eligible for coverage under the insurance plan at the employee's expense. Employees must authorize a payroll deduction of any share of the health coverage premium, which is to be paid by the employee. After deductible has been met, a coinsurance(2) of the following will be applied: In Network: 20%, and Out of Network: 50%. High Deductible Plan with HSA Monthly coverage costs are: Employee only: $721.91, Employee and Spouse: $1,588.20, Employee and Child/Children: $1299.44, and Employee and Family: $2237.92. The calendar year deductibles for this plan are; Individual In Network: $3,000.00, Individual Out of Network: $3,000.00, Family In Network: $6,000.00, and Family Out of Network: $6,000.00. Leave Plans Annual Leave: All full-time employees will earn annual leave beginning from their initial date of hire at a rate of .0385 hours earned per hour's paid (3). Part-time employees who regularly work 20 hours or more per week will earn annual leave on a pro-rated basis. Employees earn additional annual leave hours at 3, 6, 11, 16 and 21 years of service up to a maximum of 192 hours per year. While on probationary period, an employee cannot take annual leave for the first six months; the employee still accrues vacation leave during this time. Sick Leave: Eligible Humboldt County, Nevada employees accrue sick leave at the rate of .05 hours for each hour worked up to a maximum accrual of 120 hours per year with a maximum accrual of 980 hours. Holiday Leave: Eligible Humboldt County, Nevada employees enjoy 12 paid holidays per year plus one additional day as a floating holiday(4). Holidays eligible for paid holiday leave include; New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Nevada Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Family Day (Friday after Thanksgiving), and Christmas Day. Tuition Reimbursement Humboldt County, Nevada values its employees and empowers them to enhance their skills by taking career related higher education courses as well as participating in job related workshops and seminars. To that end, the County has a generous Tuition Reimbursement policy for accredited courses, reimbursing up to $4,500 per year(5) in educational expenses. Note : Humboldt County, Nevada provides benefits to regular employees. Most part time positions are ineligible for benefits.

  1. PERS retirement benefits are only available to employees hired in positions that work 20 hours per week or more on a regular basis. Positions of less than 20 hours per week (or less than 1040 hours in a fiscal year) will instead receive Social Security contributions.
  2. Coinsurance is the percentage of costs paid by employees after they have paid/met their respective deductibles.
  3. Employees will accrue annual leave during their introductory period but are not allowed to use annual leave until you they have been employed continuously for at least 6 months.
  4. Employees are eligible to receive the additional floating holiday after successful completion of 1 year of service with the County.
